2189.
[/blockquote]the coming of 2189 signaled bad things for everybody. the growing tensions between the world's countries was growing, and they fought, over resources, power, and greed. some wanted to dominate other countries, others dreamed of freedom. some where just so desperate for their own survival in these tough times that they would do whatever it took to survive.
knowing that this constant fighting would lead to nothing but bloodshed and more death and destruction, the world's scientists began to get together and plan for a better world. after years of suffering, they decided there was one way to go.
utopia.
2191.
[/blockquote]two years later, the scientists who had decided to take part in this new-world creation hacked into the networks of all the world. they broadcasted a single fact over and over again:
the fighting must stop. perfection is within reach. a utopia has been born.
a strange message, to say the least, but these scientists were dramatic people. nonetheless, the message did its job, and all of a sudden everyone forgot about fighting. they cared about nothing but getting to this utopia.
the scientists brought those willing to the city they had created, but didn't tell anyone where exactly that city was. they simply brought them there. all who came were happy. the government was quickly installed, chosen by the scientists, and everyone was given a new chance at a new life.
but there were a select few who were against the idea of a utopia. the majority of them had once been rich, or at least not poor, and they thought that a world of perfection was not how humans were meant to live. mistakes were, according to them, a part of life, and to take that away was a foolish dream.
the scientists did not force them to join their creation, but left them to their homes and communities, to live themselves. they seemed like fools for the first years of utopia's creation.
2197.
[/blockquote]the year of chaos. simply put, that is all it was.
those who had refused utopia somehow infiltrated the paradise, and others began to share their views, especially after the rule of 'everyone shall be equal, and money shall be obsolete' proved to be wrong. not everyone was equal, some found, and if you were poor, it still mattered. they started to revolt against the government, slowly, building up members until one day they made their move.
the government was surprised by the mob's attempt to get into the mayor's office and kill him, to take control of the city, but reacted quickly. they had more advantages than those who had risen up.
the scientists, who were still alive and behind much of the city's inner workings, decided to ban them from utopia. they thought this was the best punishment, worse than death. surely, they thought, once they see what the world out there is like, they will never want to return to a world of imperfection.
they thought wrong. the rebels created a home in the forest, and sent their location to the original rebels, the ones still living in their home country. they made their way to the forest as well, and the rebellion was formed and grew behind the government's back.
2198 to present.
[/blockquote]the rebellion has faded to the distant memory to most of utopia. but of course the government had never truly forgotten the only threat it faced in all its years.
so they unleashed their secret experiments: the specials. human beings that had been altered to enhance their qualities for specific purposes, the specials were released into the world of utopia, fitting right in with the regular citizens, since years of experimentation had allowed the scientists of DOSE (the department of special experimentation) to make almost all specials humanoid. some were released to hunt down rebellion members. others simply shoved into offices and buildings, where they were quickly promoted to the top thanks to their skills in that area. the government could then get a real look into the lives of citizens, a look that they couldn't get from questioning or recording on hidden cameras.
so far, few people know of the specials' existence. some have suspicions, yes, but nothing can be confirmed. or can it?
but that's just the beginning of their problems. some have started to wonder if the rebellion actually is right. what if the government's increased powers over the citizens is turning their would-be utopia into the very opposite? worse, what if they did join the rebellion, utopia fell, and they'd be stranded?
it's been so many years since anyone's lived without the looming presence of a safe, protected world, what if they can't live without it? they haven't been able to do so much as breathe without the government allowing it... but learning to breathe on their own can't be that hard.. can it?
